There's one station on the county road out of Peculiar Pastures, and it has never once sold gasoline. The pumps are topped with milk-bottle globes. One reads 2%. The other reads BOVINE FLATUS. A sign by the door promises Service With a Moo, and the rusted pickup out front has been parked in the same spot longer than anyone can remember.

Up front, the whole scene sits in a torn-edge frame under a burnt-orange sunset: a brick-and-stucco station with MLKFRTS and PECULIAR PASTURES COUNTY across the canopy, two vintage pumps, an old farm truck, a Holstein grazing in the far field, and a gas-masked cow head on a post above a roadside sign that reads DIGNITY, SOLD SEPARATELY. On the back, the Field Issue stamp sits high between the shoulders: FIELD ISSUE, MLKFRTS Supply Co., Peculiar Pastures County, with a blue star on each side.
